It would probably be better to write Volary viewpoint, because there are many places in the surroundings with beautiful views. Volary is surrounded on all sides by Šumava hills. Although the town itself is actually on a plain, you will find the first lookout point and lookout tower just a short distance from Volary.
Just 2 km west of the town there is a lookout point at the highest point of the cycle path from Volary to Soumarský Most. Since 2021, it has had a wooden heart and two original benches. The nearest lookout point is about 6 km west of the centre of Volary on the Soumarská peat bogs nature trail. It is a 9-metre high wooden tower, but it is open to the public from June to October. It was built in 2011 as part of a cross-border cooperation with Bavaria.
To the northeast of the town, above the cross road, there is a viewpoint under Kamenáč, which can be reached from the centre of Volary by following the red tourist trail. The trip takes about 45 minutes and the elevation is 125 m. Another magical viewpoint is near the village of Svatá Magdaléna, also northeast of Volary, next to the Church of St. Mary Magdalene. It takes about 2 hours to get there on foot from Volary, and about 30 minutes by bike, first on the green and then on the blue trail.
A little further, about 15 km from Volary, there is the highest wooden lookout tower in the country, which is located on the top of Boubín at 1362 m above sea level. If you are lucky, you can also see them from the stone lookout tower Libín, which is located on the same peak south of Prachatice. It is 27 metres high and has 138 steps leading up to it. It was built in 1883. Southeast of Volary there is another wooden lookout tower, which is located on the top of Knížecí stolec at 1236 metres above sea level. The tower itself is 4 metres high and has been in its current form since 2012.
