Historical settlement The road, after which the room is named, had the German name "Marchhäuser" until 1760 - which has remained until today for the houses on the opposite German slope. The village of Silnice was located near today's Strážný border crossing. The first settlers' children built large houses here in 1820. In 1854 the customs office was moved here and in 1875 a school was established. More than 40 men from the village of Silnice were killed in the First World War. In 1921, a total of 298 inhabitants lived here. After the Second World War, the German population was gradually resettled and the village became a transshipment point for goods. The settlement was divided into Upper and Lower Silnice, with the Upper Silnice always being the larger. Today, the remains of the foundations of buildings can be found on the site.
